Garnet Valley Soccer
Club was a club started
in 2003 for the sole
purpose of allowing
soccer players to
develop and improve
their skills and play
competitive soccer year
round. During the past
year, GVSC has fielded
U9 through U17 teams in
DELCO boys and PAGS
girls travel leagues.
All age groups play
year-round and continue
to have open try-outs
for all current age
groups.
Although the Garnet
Valley Soccer Club is
located in
Concordville,
PA,
there is no requirement
that players live in the
immediate area. All U9
and U10 FALL 2008
interested players are
encouraged to attend
these tryouts and
clinics sponsored by the
Garnet Valley Soccer
Club.
If you have any
questions about the
club, please contact

GARNET VALLEY SOCCER CLUB U-14
RENEGADES WIN PAGS DIV. 1
CHAMPIONSHIP
After battling through injuries
and illnesses to a 0-3 start,
the Garnet Valley Renegades
reeled off five straight regular
season wins against tough
opponents in “must-win”
situations to make the playoffs.
In the semi-final playoff
round, the Renegades prevailed
1-0 against a very talented and
well-coached Wilson Junior Chaos
team from Berks County. After
battling to a scoreless tie in
the first half, the Renegade’s
Catherine Kutys scored on a nice
left-footed shot with about 12
minutes remaining in the second
half. Rachel Guy assisted on
the goal. The following day
(Sunday, November 15th), the
Renegades completed their
amazing run by beating a very
physical West-Mont
Blue Crush team in the
finals. After missing on
several close shots in the first
half and giving up a goal in the
final minute, the Renegades,
down 0-1, took the field in the
second half determined to
capture the league title.
Pressuring the ball and playing
excellent team soccer, momentum
shifted in the Renegades favor.
With less than 3 minutes to go
in regulation, Julia DiMarco
received a nice thru ball,
played by Haley Warden, broke
away from the defenders and
lifted her shot just over the
out-stretched fingertips of the
West-Mont keeper for the
equalizer. After two scoreless
overtime periods the game came
down to
penalty kicks. When
Courtney Smith scored on the
fifth and final kick, with other
made PK’s by Brooke Gottlieb and
Haley Warden, Garnet Valley held
a two goal advantage, earning
the girls the PAGS division 1
championship. Maris Hayes, the
Garnet Valley keeper, made three
excellent saves – yielding only
one
penalty kick score to
West-Mont.
Since starting 0-3, the team
went undefeated in their last
ten games, including three
tournament games in Cape May,
NJ. In that time, the girls
scored 18 goals, while only
allowing three. Our team was
comprised of Goalies-
Maris Hayes and Justine Piraino
who also played in the field
when not in goal. Defensive
backs- Katie Keyser, Amanda
Olsen, Samantha Amicone, Lindsay
Biondy. Defensive
midfielders- Christine
Kavanagh & Rachel Guy. Midfield/Forwards-
Haley Warden, Julia DiMarco,
Alexandra Dubnansky, Brooke
Gottlieb, Catherine Kutys,
Courtney Smith, Alyssa Blair.
Every one of these talented,
young athletes made important
contributions throughout the
season that made this
championship run possible.
Coaches and parents alike are
very proud of this group of
young ladies who have developed
into good
soccer players, but more
so, great teammates who
demonstrated what can be
accomplished through hard work,
commitment, belief one’s self
and belief in one’s teammates.
The U9
Fireball girls team is
looking for up to 3 additional
players to play Indoor Futsol.
If anyone knows of any girls
looking to playing Indoor Futsol,

THE
CINDERELLA SEASON: GARNET
VALLEY VIPERS BECOME U11 SOCCER
CHAMPIONS!
On November 18, 2007, the Garnet
Valley Vipers earned the title
of U11 Division Champions in the
Philadelphia Area Girls Soccer (PAGS) league
after defeating the Boyertown
Twisted Sisters by a score of
3-0 following goals by Raven
Haggerty, Hana Arai and Sara
Linton. The championship game
took place in Malvern with
temperatures in the low 30's and
rain coming down, but the girls
were able to prevail despite the
adverse conditions.
The Vipers had a whirlwind
playoff weekend by first
defeating the Interboro Gunners
in the semi-final game on
November 17th in a nail biter.
The two teams were tied with a
score of 2-2 at the end of
regulation play. After playing
in double overtime with neither
team scoring, the teams went
into the penalty kick shootout
phase of the game to determine
who would earn the right to
compete in the championship
match. This was tied at 3-3
after the Vipers top scorers,
Hana and Raven, as well as one
of their goalies, Brianne
Paulley, were able to get the
ball into the net. Finally, it
came down to Carli Sitkowski
taking a shot after Interboro's last
penalty kick was taken. Carli
was able to place the ball just
beyond the fingertips of the
opposing goalie's outstretched
arms and the Vipers were
victorious. Fortunately, with
Kiley Price protecting their
goal, the Vipers were able to
stop Interboro's strongest
shooters from scoring their
penalty kicks.
The Vipers had a spectacular
defensive group this year and
allowed fewer goals scored on
them than all but one other team
in their division. Goalies
Brianne and Kiley had wonderful
protection from sweepers Kiley
Major and Holly Aronhalt.
Defenders Lindsey Dunn, Maria
Fortunato and Nicole Rundell
rarely allowed the ball to get
into the danger zone. The
team's center midfielders, Kayla
Sivel, Carrie Waldis and Carli
were always great at helping on
defense yet did equally well at
advancing the ball on the
offensive drive and were
instrumental in the
Vipers playoff victories.
Outside middies Christine Huang,
Kerry Shay, Raven and Hana were
always a scoring threat
throughout the season. Forwards
Haley Miller, Amanda Buchek,
Abby Goldbach and Sara kept the
pressure on their opponents
defense game after game. game.
This Cinderella team was able to
go all the way and become
champions during its first year
of existence. After barely
having enough girls at tryouts
to form a team, the coaches
heard from several other girls
over the following weeks who
were looking to join after not
making teams at other local
clubs. These girls had
something to prove this season
and certainly did by not only
becoming division champions, but
also by defeating three local
PAGS teams in
non-divisional play including
BYC, West Chester and Rose
Tree. After its successful 2007
season the team counts on
advancing to higher division
league play next year.
